[Kefir_making] Re: Prickly passion kefir lemonade

I love, love prickly pears (tunas), seeds and all, I just peel them and eat them, yum yum, can't wait to get my hands on some.

Re: [OpenCV] Access to my OpenCV tutorials

Ok after several weeks of problems, my website has officially moved to "http://www.shervinemami.info/", but "http://www.shervinemami.co.cc/" will stay available as an up-to-date mirror site in case the other one is temporarily down in the future.

I've finally learned that using a free web host can give you problems but using a free domain name can be much worse!

Cheers,
Shervin Emami.

Hi,

Some of you on this group will have noticed that my website "www.shervinemami.co.cc" with OpenCV tutorials has disappeared! Anyway I have created a more stable address that you should use from now on:

(Direct links to my tutorials won't work for a few more days because its currently hosted on my Dropbox account. For now just click on "OpenCV" once you are on the website).

PS: If anyone is interested in SIMD / Assembly language programming for smartphones & tablets, I just added a quite thorough tutorial in the "Assembly" section.

[Kefir_making] Re: Stomach pain cured by drinking milk kefir

I am very, very pleased you have a GI doctor who is willing to think outside the box. You bet U.C. and Crohns are horrible diseases, and steroids are definitely NOT the answer for long-term. Here's to a successful means of putting your U.C. into remission and keeping it there!

He knows exactly what I am doing nutritionally, although all of it was stuff I figured out on my own. Entocort as you know, is a steroid and was not intended for long-term use. No studies have been done on it's use long-term. Autoimmune disease is serious and so is cancer. So can the side-effects of long-term drug use be serious. Some of those side effects are not even known as many as the meds are too new and drug companies don't study long-term side effects.

I can't begin to tell you how much money I've wasted on those meds trying one for a few weeks, being sicker than I was without them, and moving on to the next. and the next. and the next, and so on. And they were all name brands - not a generic in the lot. That's a lot of wasted co-pays on meds that made me sicker than I was before I started them. Oh, there was one that didn't make me sicker, and it also didn't help at all - kinda no point in taking it under the circumstances.

Jan and I had taken our discussion offline and I was glad to know her doc was in the loop. I'm not about advising people to get off meds. I was only trying to share some things that have helped for me. It's great that you give such advice to your patients. You are rare in the medical community, at least in my experience. And yep, manuka honey is another thing I forgot to mention, as was coconut oil, which Jan mentioned. Those have been very helpful to me. Linda

Re: [Kefir_making] Too many water kefir grains

Linda..you don't need a dehydrator, 24-48hr one layer room temp and they will dry. Dogs love them. Dom has recipes for seasoning, treats, etc. I put them in my indoor plant soil, toss excess on compost and base of outdoor plants.

What do most of you do with your WKG when you can't give it away?
I have a food dehydrator and was wondering if I could dry them on low
and then foodsaver them for some future use.

My 1/4 cup sure grew!
They are now about 1 1/2 cups of grains.
I wish my Milk kefir grains grew like that.

Or should I just throw them away? Can they be fed to dogs?

Re: [OpenCV] How to get the position in the environement of the detected object ?

The easiest way is just to assume that anything to the left half of the camera is to the left of the robot, and the right half is to the right of the robot. Or use the position on the X axis as a guide to roughly how far left or how far right it is. There are many more methods that give better info but can become a lot more complicated.

[Kefir_making] Looking for Water Grains in Fox Valley area of Wisconsin

I was wondering if anyone had extra water grains in the Neenah-Menasha area that I could get. I am currently unemployed and looking to see if I can get some free before I try to find some with cheap shipping.

I could trade milk grains if that helps.

[Kefir_making] First batch

Dear Kefir Krowd,

Well, I got my kefir grains from a very generous guy in Aurora, Colorado named Shannon. He gave me about a cup or 1/2 a cup for $15.00. The hardest part is being so enthusiastic about it that I was willing to drive 4 hours total just to get the kefir grains. Driving up there cost me more than the grains, and I am not talking about my incredibly sore butt. Fortunately, I had my precious darling boy with me, and we talked about how to defend one's self against zombies and what are the best buildings to hide in when the zombies comes and other stuff interesting to 12 years old boys of all ages. But I digress.

I put the grains in for 17 hours. After 17 hours, the liquid tasted, on a scale of +10 to -10, about a -2. But there was a bunch of white stuff in the strainer (not the kefir grains). Not much, maybe a tablespoonful. It was sort of a +3 on the taste scale. Sort of pleasant. I think that that was the liquid kefir, the gold and the goal that we want. But I was so disappointed in the liquid that I threw away most of it, thinking that I just had to let the kefir grains (I will call them Sophia) get used to my milk. That was probably a mistake. I did keep about a large cup full, so I just set that out and put a saucer over it. And then I poured fresh milk (organic whole pasteurized milk) in with Sophia.

What did I do wrong? Did I do anything wrong, other than throw most of the liquid away?

Help!

Sincerely,

Roger Bird

[OpenCV] Re: Focus of Expansion in Optic Flow

Hi doni,

I know this is a pretty old thread, but I just want to know whether you were able to find a reliable example for FOE calculation?

I'm in the same situation as you were in 4 years ago :)

Thanks!

[Kefir_making] kefir laban

I made my 1st kefir laban yesterday and now have some whey, too. I'm so excited! LOL

I put put some canned pineapple in it to flavor it. I used can because it is what I have on hand plus I didn't know what the enzymes of fresh pineapple would do to the laban. Boy, is it good! I need some bagels now or I could eat it like a pudding. Do you have to be careful not to eat too much of this fermented food when you are just starting out?

My husband thinks I am a mad scientist and says he is sure going to miss me. LOL

[OpenCV] Face Recognition Accuracy

Hi all,

I am working on a project require face recognition feature. Base on OpenCV, I implemented the feature and it is kind of working. The problem is that the accuracy is too low. For example, if my database has 2 person (John and Andy), sometimes it recognize John as Andy and vice versa, the sometimes it recognize another person not in database of either John or Andy.

What are the better way to improve face recognition accuracy? My objective is to get close to 90% accuracy, I can even put in restriction that it only for clear face front image.

My project doesn't have a very strict running performance requirement, so a little slow algorithm is fine. The accuracy is a must for me.

Thanks in advance!
Rovi
